Contrast a new housing development with an older, established neighborhood. There are many differences, but one thing that certainly says “new” is the lack of shade trees in a new development. Even with fresh green sod and foundation plantings, the landscape appears barren. The houses seem “exposed.”

Stately shade trees add a sense of permanence and tenacity to the landscape, and can provide a “ceiling” for other plantings. U of M varieties have been selected and tested though many seasons to assure healthy trees with attractive features.

Know to Grow

A circle of mulch will keep weeds from sprouting in the fresh soil around the new tree and, more importantly, protect the trunk from your lawnmower.
